Lakeside Lodge - Lodge Course - 10/09/18

It was a sort of middling day today. My drives behaved themselves but I wasn't hitting the irons well, whether it be long or short shots. The weather was fine, a bit cooler than of late and some wind, but nothing to complain about. Once again play was slow, which now seems to be a regular occurrence.

A nice straight drive on the 1st followed by a hybrid of almost the same distance was a good start. My next hybrid was shorter and didn't quite make the green. I then thinned the chip sending me off the far side of the green. The putt on was a bit short but I put the next putt down for a nett per 6. I not only avoided the ditch today on the 2nd but managed a good drive of 182 yards. My 7-iron was then short, needing another chip on. Two putts for a nett par 5, a good start.
We had a long wait on the 3rd tee and when I took an iron to lay up, I stuck down on the ball and only made 30 yards. I then messed up the next iron shot, finally getting to the right of the green with my third. I putted on and then two-putted for a nett bogey 6. I put my drive into the fairway bunker on the 4th but got out reasonably well with an 8-iron. The ball settled on a bank and again I played a sensible 8-iron, leaving me a pitch to the green. I was short and had to chip on, after which two putts gave me a nett bogey 7.

Hole 2 - 10 September 2018

Hole 2

I took my hybrid off the tee on the 5th and was lucky to avoid the left-side bunker when the shot went much further left than planned. I chipped on and two-putted for a nett par 4. I straight drive on the 6th was followed by a hybrid shot that sliced right, the ball ending up under the willow branches. With the branches in my face I managed a pitch that ran off the green. A chip back on and two putts for a nett par 5. My drive went right on the 7th and an attempt to fade a 3-wood around the right-hand dogleg didn't come off. The next hybrid went left with the ball settling on the edge of a bunker. It was a tricky shot, which I thinned, sending the ball off the far side of the green. I had to chip back on and then two-putted for a nett bogey 7.

The 8th started well with a drive followed by a long 3-wood that out-distanced the drive. I then hit a poor 6-iron, following which I stubbed the ground on a gentle chip, needing another to get on. Two putts gave me another nett bogey 7, but it should have been better. I went well left on the 9th into rough near the path. A hybrid out was followed by a 3-wood that, instead of going left and fading to follow the fairway, went too far right and miraculously found its way through a group of trees. A bit of luck. My 8-iron found the green, albeit a long way from the pin. Two putts for a nett par 6.

The tally was 53 shots, 15 putts and 14 points. Not great, but far better than I've done on some recent outings. The only thing that really disappointed me was my irons, which cost me probably 3 or 4 shots.

I checked my updated club handicap today, which is 27.3. This means that I should be coming in on between 49 and 50 for 9 holes, which I'm certainly capable of, but rarely achieve.
