Lakeside Lodge - Lodge Course - 24/11/16

Today was so bad that I'm not even going to report on it! Well, not in detail at least.

It was a welcome dry day after all the rain but with a cold north-easterly wind. The course was heavy but not in bad shape considering how much rain we've had.

My main problem was that I couldn't seem to get loft on any of my shots, which is unusual as I tend normally to get more loft than most. My hybrid shots off the fairway and light rough were rubbish, with most just scooting along the ground. By the time I had reached the 7th I had 4 blobs behind me, so with nothing to lose I decided to start using my 4-iron rather than a hybrid. It was somewhat better, but far from being the grand solution. I went on to blob both the 8th and the 9th.

I usually come away with at least a few shots that make me feel good, but today I'm pressed to think of any. Even the par on the 5th was the result of a badly hit hybrid off the tee that curved from left to right and ended up, quite fortuitously, just off the green. The chip on was long and the single putt back literally turned right into the hole as it lost pace. I did allow for the run of the green, but even so …

Hole 5 - 24 November 2016

To summarise: 64 shots and 18 putts, with a measly total of 5 points, 3 of which being from the par on the 5th, which was the only glimmer of light among an otherwise awful round.

I'm currently contemplating whether playing in winter conditions is actually worth it.
